Patrick Ekeng, 26, dies after collapse during Dinamo Bucharest game Last Updated: 07/05/16 1:51am
Cameroon international Patrick Ekeng collapsed and died while playing for Romanian club Dinamo Bucharest on Friday night. Midfielder Ekeng fell to the ground seven minutes after coming off the bench during Dinamo's game against Viitorul Constanta. The 26-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. "Resuscitation attempts were made for an hour and half without success," Dinamo team doctor Liviu Paltinean said.
Ekeng joined Dinamo from Cordoba in January, and a message on the Spanish club's Twitter page said: "There are no words to express our sorrow for the death of Patrick Ekeng . We mourn your loss. We will never forget you friend."
The cause of death has not been confirmed.
In 2003, another Cameroon midfielder, Marc-Vivien Foe, collapsed and died during an international match against Colombia.
And in 2000 Dinamo captain Catalin Hildan died after suffering a cardiac arrest during a friendly match.
