Gianluigi Buffon and Andrea Barzagli set for new Juventus contracts Juventus are set to announce the extension of the contracts of goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and Andrea Barzagli at a news conference on Wednesday. The Turin-based club have called a news conference for 2 p.m. CEST on Wednesday, revealing in a tweet that both Buffon, 38, and Barzagli, 35, will be present, together with the club's president Andrea Agnelli.According to reports in Italy, the pair are both going to commit to new deals up to 2018. Buffon's current contract is due to expire in 2017 while Barzagli is out of contract this summer. Both have once again made a major contribution to the Bianconeri winning the Scudetto for the fifth season in a row.
Barzagli earned particular praise for his performances in the Champions League this season, while he has missed only seven games in Serie A and will on Saturday lift the sixth domestic title of his career, having also won the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in 2009.
Buffon has held onto his No. 1 jersey for club and country, despite the signing of Neto from Fiorentina last summer.
The veteran, who is expected to retire from the game after the 2018 World Cup, where both he and Barzagli could go in search of a second world title, has featured in all but two of Juve's league and Champions League fixtures this season.
Saturday's clash with Sampdoria should nevertheless be his last appearance of the season since Neto has been chosen by coach Massimiliano Allegri for the Bianconeri's Coppa Italia fixtures and is expected to keep goal in the final against AC Milan on May 21.
Buffon joined Juve from Parma in 2001 and will have completed 17 seasons for the club once his new contract expires. Former Palermo defender Barzagli arrived from Wolfsburg in 2011.
