Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul has joined Dutch side AZ Alkmaar on loan until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old Holland international, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Ajax but played just six times, saw a potential move to Watford collapse earlier in the day.

Krul wrote on his Twitter account (@TimKrul): "I'm grateful to @AZAlkmaar for giving me the opportunity! Can't wait to be on the pitch!"

HORNETS CONSIDER KRUL

We understand Watford are considering a loan move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul.

The Netherlands international is on loan at Ajax but is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Eredivisie club, who are willing to let him leave this month.

Krul would provide cover for Hornets second ‘keeper Costel Pantilimon, who has been ruled out for three to four weeks with an injury sustained in their FA Cup defeat at Millwall.

Krul will be expected to provide cover and competition for Heurelho Gomes. Costel Pantilimon damaged ankle ligaments at Millwall in the FA Cup.
The full extent of the injury is still unclear but Pantilimon looks set for at least a month out.
