Milan EXCLUDED from Europa League as they take season out of UEFA competition in a bid to balance books to comply with Financial Fair Play- Milan have been excluded their application to play in Europa League in 2019-20
- The Serie A outfit qualified for the group stages after finishing fifth in the table
- However, it is understood they have taken steps to help them comply with FFP
Serie A giants Milan have taken the decision to withdraw their application to play in the Europa League this coming season. The club finished fifth in the Italian top flight last season, which qualified them to enter the competition at the group stages.
However, new owners Elliot Management, who took over from Rossoneri Sport Investment, have taken the steps to withdraw from the competition in a bid to help them balance the books after the former owners racked up catastrophic losses. It has been reported that chief executive Ivan Gazidis believes a season out of the European scene will provide an opportunity to turn around their fortunes, after announcing losses of £126million for the 2017-18 campaign. Those types of losses would have made it virtually impossible for Milan to fall in line with UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules, meaning any attempt to enter the competition would have been met with a likely fine and a restriction on squad size.
The decision leaves new boss Marco Giampaolo to focus solely on a domestic front.
