Arsenal close in on £5m Cedric Soares ahead of January transfer deadline Arsenal are closing in on a £5million deal for Southampton right-back Cedric Soares ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.
Southampton are keen to cash in on a player who will be available on a free at the end of the season, with the Portugal international - part of the Euro 2016-winning squad - publicly declaring earlier this season that he will not be extending his contract at St. Mary's.
Speaking to the Telegraph in November, Cedric said: "Obviously Southampton is very important in my career and always will be. But right now, after this season, I am going to take another step and see what is best for me.
"It’s a great opportunity and it’s something (being out of contract) that maybe happens once in your life for a player."
With Kyle Walker-Peters set to arrive from Tottenham on loan for the remainder of the season, Southampton are happy to confirm Cedric's exit.
The 28-year-old fell out of favour following Ralph Hasenhuttl's arrival in December 2018, subsequently being sent on loan to Inter Milan for the second half of last season.
However, Cedric has been vital in Southampton's turnaround this season before being forced off with a knee injury during the win over Crystal Palace earlier this month.
