• Frenchman departs at end of difficult season for Spanish club

Zinedine Zidane has decided to leave Real Madrid with immediate effect, bringing to an end his second stint as manager at the Spanish club.

Zidane’s exit follows a disappointing season for the club, who lost out to rivals Atlético Madrid in a title race that went to the final day. Real Madrid were also knocked out of the Champions League by Chelsea in the semi-finals, and were one of the key players behind the failed Super League breakaway.

The Frenchman returned to Real Madrid in March 2019, replacing Santiago Solari, and won his second La Liga title in the Covid-affected 2019-20 season. In his first stint at the club from January 2016 to May 2018, Zidane won three Champions League titles and the 2016-17 Spanish league.

Real Madrid are yet to make an official announcement on Zidane’s future.

Allegri is the favourite only is case Zidane will decide to leave the club. Real are also planning for some new entry in the board.

Real Madrid are in direct contact with Allegri since March but he’s now in talks with Juventus and Inter too.

Real Madrid have confirmed the departure of Zinedine Zidane, saying it is “time to respect” the decision of a manager who has won the Champions League three times and La Liga twice with the club.

“It is now time to respect his decision and show him our appreciation for his professionalism, dedication and passion in all these years, and for what his figure represents for Real Madrid,” the club said in a statement.

“Zidane is one of the greats of Real Madrid and his legend goes beyond what he has been as a coach and player for our club. He knows that he is at the heart of Real Madrid and that Real Madrid is and will always be his home.”

Antonio Conte, who left Internazionale on Wednesday, is among the candidates to take over from Zidane. Madrid have an in-house option in Raúl, their former player who is in charge of the club’s B team, and had been in talks with Massimiliano Allegri but he has agreed to return to Juventus.

As far as Real Madrid are concerned, Carlo Ancelotti is their new manager. The deal is done at their end. They made the approach to him over the weekend. Task now for Everton to find a replacement. Nuno Espírito Santo, David Moyes, Eddie Howe early contenders 🔵
