Barcelona in for MascheranoJavier Mascherano could be on his way out of Liverpool after all - this time to Barcelona.
The midfielder has been continually linked with a reunion with former mentor Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan and has told Anfield boss Roy Hodgson of his intention to leave the club.
But Inter president Massimo Moratti has dealt his wish a huge blow when declaring the Italian club do not have the financial resources to match Liverpool's valuation of the player.
Now according to El Mundo Deportivo, the Argentinean's could still get his wish - but it won't be a reunion with Benitez.
The report claims that Inter's decision not to sign the 26-year-old has alerted Barcelona, who have reignited their interest in him.
The Catalan club have recently lost their long battle to sign Cesc Fabregas and are now shifting their attention to Mascherano.
Liverpool have reportedly hung a ?20 million price-tag over his neck. But manager Roy Hodgson is a keen admirer of Aliaksandr Hleb, whom Barcelona could use as part of the deal for Mascherano on top of ?10 million.
The player's Spanish representative Horacio Zandonadi has further fueled the speculation by revealing his client's interest in playing at the Nou Camp.
He told COM Radio: "Javier likes the idea of joining Barcelona a lot. He didn't renew his contract with Liverpool and the club have promised us that they're willing to cooperate if a good offer comes in. The situation is quite different from last year's situation."
