Aston Villa: Jores Okore joins growing injury list

Jores Okore is struggling to be fit in time for Aston Villa’s trip to Manchester United on Saturday.

The in-form centre half has been carrying a knee injury and was forced to miss Denmark’s defeat to France last night.

A scan revealed increased swelling and Okore is now facing a race against time to recover.

With fellow defenders Ron Vlaar (calf), Philippe Senderos (calf) and Nathan Baker (knee) also doubtful for the Old Trafford clash, Villa are facing a defensive crisis.

Aston Villa: Ron Vlaar provides an update on his fitness amidst Villa's defensive crisis

Ron Vlaar has told boss Tim Sherwood: ‘I’m ready to ease your defensive crisis’.

The Aston Villa skipper has declared himself fit for Saturday’s trip to Manchester United, ending earlier fears that the claret and blues would struggle to name a recognised backline.

With Jores Okore (knee), Philippe Senderos (calf) and Nathan Baker (knee) all doubtful for the game, Vlaar’s availability will come as a boost as he’s expected to start alongside in-form Ciaran Clark.

“It was really frustrating to have the set-back recently,” said Vlaar.

“It’s happened a few times this season but I feel good now and I hope to be in for the weekend.

“Hopefully we’ve found the cause of the problems now.”

Vlaar had been struggling with a niggling calf strain that has plagued his Villa career.

A recurring knee injury had also thwarted his progress this year but now he hopes to be finally rid of the troubles.
