Danny Ings to exit Liverpool in search of first-team football • Liverpool striker has suffered injury blighted time at Anfield • Will attract interest from European and Premier League clubs
Danny Ings has taken the difficult decision to seek a move away from Liverpool this summer as he aims to relaunch a career that has been blighted by injuries throughout his time at Anfield.
There is no real desire within the club’s hierarchy to part company with a striker who has become a useful squad player under Jürgen Klopp, but the 25-year-old craves regular first-team football and recognises he will struggle to gain game-time on Merseyside. He will depart with Liverpool’s blessing.
Ings’ desire to prove himself under Klopp had seen him reject prospective moves in each of the last three transfer windows in which he has been fit and available for selection, with interest having been expressed from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, as well as his former clubs Burnley and AFC Bournemouth.
There will be suitors from Premier League clubs this time round too but, intriguingly, interest also from abroad. Internazionale are believed to be monitoring his situation, while a trio of Bundlesiga clubs – RB Leipzig, Schalke 04 and Bayer Leverkusen – could also formalise their pursuit of his services. Ings will depart reluctantly, but retains ambitions to prove himself at the highest level and a desire to regain a place in the England set-up. It is a sign of the strength of the relationship between player and manager that Liverpool are unlikely to price him out of a move away.
The £6.5m signing from Burnley has seen his time at Anfield horribly interrupted by two serious knee injuries, but he recovered sufficiently to make 14 appearances last term for the Champions League finalists, scoring once in a 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion in April. He has worked extensively with a personal trainer over the current closed season to ensure he will be fit and ready for the new season – Liverpool actually return to pre-season training next Monday – and has two years to run on his current contract.
Danny Ings has decided to look for a move from Liverpool. Tough decision, but wants to play regularly. Lots of clubs will be interested. Liverpool would be happy for him to stay. @TimesSport

James Pearce Liverpool don't want to lose Danny Ings but understand his burning desire to play more regularly. Feels like the right time for a fresh start for him. Having missed so much football, he needs to play. #LFC
Crystal Palace target Liverpool's Danny Ings and will make £20m bid
Crystal Palace are ready to pay £20m for Liverpool striker Danny Ings. Roy Hodgson is targeting a raid on his former club for Ings, the England international who is poised to leave Liverpool this summer.
Hodgson will move for Ings when he raises money from player sales and is hoping to convince the 26-year-old to choose Palace as his next club.
Ings is also of interest to Southampton and Newcastle but Hodgson wants the forward to spearhead Palace's attack in the forthcoming Premier League season.
Palace have opened talks over a possible deal with Liverpool and will be asked to pay an initial £20m, which could rise to around £25m after various clauses.
Ings has two years remaining on his Liverpool contract and has reached an amicable agreement with manager Jürgen Klopp that he can leave this summer.
The Danny Ings to Southampton would be a loan from Liverpool for the season with view to permanent deal next summer

'INGS WILL HAVE POINT TO PROVE'
Southampton boss Mark Hughes says new signings Danny Ings will "have a point to prove" on the south coast after his injury-ravaged time at Liverpool.
“There was significant competition for Danny, with a lot of clubs keen to complete a deal for him, so we’re clearly delighted that he chose to join us," Hughes told the club's website.
“We have admired him for some time now, not only for his ability, but also his character and personality, which we feel will be an ideal fit in our dressing room.
“He’s obviously a local boy, who gives us another excellent option up front. He didn’t get to play as much as he would have liked at Liverpool, but he has been injury-free for some time now and has a real point to prove.
“It’s a great boost for us on the eve of the season to bring another quality player into the squad, and we’re excited about what he can bring to the group.”

Danny Ings leaves Liverpool as Reds seal £20m deal with Southampton in last-gasp deadline day move The 26-year-old striker has joined Saints initially on a season-long loan but they are committed to buying the England international next summer
Danny Ings' Liverpool career is over after he sealed a last-gasp £20million move to Southampton on deadline day. The 26-year-old striker has joined Saints initially on a season-long loan but they are committed to buying the England international next summer.
Ings , who has agreed a four-year contract with his boyhood club, will officially join the South Coast outfit on a permanent basis on July 1 2019. Liverpool are guaranteed to bank £18million with a further £2million to potentially follow in add-ons related to appearances. The Reds have also negotiated a 20% sell-on clause. Southampton narrowly beat the clock to secure Ings' services after leaving it late to thrash out an agreement with Liverpool on Thursday afternoon.
With the deal sheet submitted to the Premier League just before the 5pm cut off, they managed to complete all the relevant paperwork within the two-hour extension limit.
Ings could make his debut for Southampton in Sunday's clash with his former club Burnley at St Mary's.
It represents a dream move for Ings, who informed Jurgen Klopp of his desire to leave earlier this summer in search of regular first-team football.
Crystal Palace and Leicester City also showed interest but Southampton was always his first choice.
Winchester-born Ings grew up supporting Saints and started his career at the club's Academy before being released at the age of 10 after he's told he was too small to make the grade. He subsequently joined Bournemouth and made the breakthrough there before signing for Burnley in 2011.
Ings moved to Anfield in the summer of 2015 but after a bright start he ruptured his ACL shortly after Klopp's appointment.
Shortly after making his comeback in 2016, he suffered another serious knee injury which kept him out for 11 months.
Last season he regained fitness but was limited to just three starts and 11 substitute outings.
The £20million deal represents a significant profit for the Reds, who had to pay Burnley £6.5million following a tribunal.
In total Ings scored four goals in 25 appearances for Liverpool. Klopp didn't want to lose him but he's delighted that Ings has got a move which gives him the chance to kick-start his career after a frustrating few years.
Danny Ings says he could not miss the chance to come home and join his boyhood club Southampton today. “When this football club came up, I had to take the opportunity to come home. It’s a fantastic football club who play great football and I’m just happy here," he told the club's TV channel.
“You can tell that as a club it’s very, very organised. From the start, everyone I’ve met has been fantastic with me and shown me every single detail I need to know. The facilities are great and I can’t wait to get started.”
Liverpool will have to pay Burnley around £2.3million next summer following the sale of Danny Ings to Southampton.
The striker's three-year stay at Anfield ended on deadline day when he sealed a £20million move to Saints.
Ings will spend this season on loan at St Mary's with the transfer becoming permanent on July 1 2019.
Liverpool are guaranteed to bank £18million with a further £2million to potentially follow in add-ons.
However, the Reds will have to pass on a chunk of that fee to Burnley, who were guaranteed 20% of any future profit by a tribunal in April 2016.
Liverpool initially paid the Clarets £6.5million for Ings after the two clubs had failed to agree on a compensation figure and it would have climbed to £8million if he had made more appearances.
With a profit of £11.5million, the Reds will have to give £2.3million to Burnley.
