Real Madrid deny accusing Ozil of unprofessional behaviour


Los Blancos say their president Florentino Perez had nothing to do with the interview about the Germany international printed in a Spanish newspaper earlier this week


Real Madrid have strongly denied that president Fiorentino Perez accused Mesut Ozil of unprofessional behaviour during his time at the Bernabeu.

Newspaper ABC, a publication based in Madrid, had quoted the Blancos chief as saying that the Germany star, now at Arsenal, "wasn't a good professional and was obsessed with women and nightlife," which immediately prompted an angry reaction by Ozil's agent and father, Mustafa.

However, in an official letter sent to Sport Bild, the Spanish outfit have claimed that the interview was fabricated and forced ABC to publish an apology, clearing the club of any wrongdoing.

"Neithe rpresident Fiorentino Perez, nor any other member of the football club has anything to do with the published information in the Spanish newspaper about the player Mesut Ozil," the statement read.

"The newspaper has confirmed that nobody within the club contacted them and made a statement about this topic.

"Real Madrid regret that the statements, which had nothing to do with the football club, have prompted a reaction from Ozil's father.

"We again thank Mesut Ozil and wish him all the best for the future."

The Germany international was unveiled at Arsenal on Thursday, following his ?47 million move on deadline day.

The Spanish giants boosted their attacking options over the summer with the high-profile acquisitions of Isco and Gareth Bale respectively, and Zidane has claimed that the Gunners new-boy lacked the stomach to compete for his selection in the starting line-up.

"Ozil decided to leave," he told the club's official channel. "He is a good player who has given us so much so we wish him well.

"There are players who have responded with strength and will to fight for a place, but not everyone reacted the same.

"[Angel] Di Maria responded well and wanted to fight."

The Blancos travel to newly-promoted Villarreal in the Primera Liga on Saturday where ?100 million recruit Bale could be handed his debut.
