KLOPP ADMITS BIG SQUAD SIZE

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his squad is too big, but says the club will not be giving players away for free.

He said: "We will see what happens. If any player from my team is available, then in every other situation in my life as a manager I would have bought all of them, to be honest. They are all fantastic boys, they are able to play fantastic football.

"In this moment, the squad would be too big, that's true. But it's not that that means for us that we give them for free or something like that, Liverpool is strong enough to keep all these players and then we deal with that.

"We are not there to make other teams stronger, that's not our job."

Latest on Liverpool's transfer deadline day plans with future of eight players yet to be decided
Marko Grujic could be the one to be handed a reprieve

Marko Grujic is likely to stay at Liverpool ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline ¡V but Danny Ings is still on course to seal a move away from Anfield.

Serbian midfielder Grujic had been expected to join Premier League new boys Cardiff City on a season-long loan following the Reds' pre-season schedule.

However, rather than sign a contract extension and link up with the Bluebirds, Grujic has indicated that he would rather stay and fight for a place at Liverpool.

A foreign loan hasn't been ruled out later in the month but as things stand Liverpool don't expect him to depart before 5pm on Thursday.

Ings' three-year stay at the club is coming to an end with the Reds still expecting to bank around £20million for the former Burnley striker.

Crystal Palace and Southampton are the front-runners for his signature with Newcastle United no longer in contention.

Ings proved his fitness when he came off the bench for the second half of Tuesday night's 3-1 win over Torino at Anfield. He had previously been hampered by an ankle problem picked up against Chester last month and sat out the tour of America.

Jurgen Klopp doesn't want to lose Ings, who is a popular member of the squad, but the manager understands his desire to seek regular first-team football elsewhere.

Sheyi Ojo could also leave Liverpool on deadline day. The Reds have been considering offers for the £15million rated winger.

If their valuation isn't met then the Reds are open to the idea of a temporary move for Ojo if a sizeable loan fee is guaranteed.

That wouldn't need to be thrashed out before 5pm on Thursday as Football League clubs can still complete loan signings up to the end of the month.

With the window overseas not shutting until August 31, there is no great rush to move on others on the fringes of Klopp's squad.

Lazar Markovic, Divock Origi, Simon Mignolet and Pedro Chirivella are all expected to depart.

Celtic want Chirivella but have so far been unwilling to match Liverpool's £3.5million valuation.

The 21-year-old Spanish midfielder last week turned down a move to Rosenborg after the Reds agreed a fee with the Norwegian outfit.

Chirivella, who has previously had loan spells at Go Ahead Eagles and Willem II in Holland, has two years remaining on his Liverpool contract.
