Champions League: Lionel Messi ruled out of Group H game at Celtic




Lionel Messi will miss Barcelona's Champions League date with Celtic on Tuesday after being ruled out for two to three weeks.

Messi, the world player of the year, scored the opening goal against Almeria on Saturday night,
butwas forced to leave the pitch soon afterwards with a hamstring problem in his right leg.
"Leo Messi has a small injury to the biceps femoris (thigh) in his right leg," a Barcelona statement read.
"The Argentinian will be out for approximately two to three weeks, which will certainly force him to miss Barcelona's two games this week -
on Tuesday against Celtic and next Saturday at the Camp Nou against Valladolid."


The 2-0 win at Almeria made it seven wins out of seven in La Liga for Barca, setting a club record for the best start to a Spanish league campaign.
Messi joins a growing injury list for the Spaniards; Javier Mascherano and Jordi Alba are both out with hamstring problems while
veteran centre-back Carles Puyol is another who will not feature at Celtic Park.
Barcelona opened their Group H Champions League campaign with a 4-0 home win over Ajax while Celtic were going down 2-0 in Milan.

Tests carried out on Sunday morning have confirmed a slight injury to his right thigh

He’ll be sidelined by the injury for about two or three weeks and so will definitely miss this week’s matches against Celtic and Valladolid



Tests carried out by the Club’s medical services this morning have confirmed the initial diagnosis that Leo Messi has suffered a slight thigh injury
in his right leg.  The Argentine will be out for between two and three weeks, which means that he definitely won’t be available for the two matches
coming up for FC Barcelona this week: Tuesday in Glasgow against Celtic, and Saturday in the Camp Nou against Valladolid.  
That will be followed by another international break meaning that Barca will have to wait until 19th October to resume the league programme
against Osasuna in Pamplona.

Messi came off injured and was replaced by Xavi after scoring the first goal against Almeria.
