Rosell announces new Iniesta contract until 2018


The FC Barcelona president has confirmed that the midfielder, who was on contract until 2015, will now be staying at FCB until June 30, 2018

In 479 official appearances, Iniesta has won 21 trophies at the club





President Sandro Rosell used his media appearance today to announce the renewal of Andres Iniesta’s contract until 2018.
The player’s contract was due to expire in 2015, but has now been officially extended for a further three years.

A life at Barca

Iniesta will be 34 on June 30, 2018, which will mean he will have been at the club for an incredible 22 years.
He first arrived at FC Barcelona in September 1996, when he was only 12. By the 2000/01 season he was making the switch from the U19 team to Barca B and
in October 2002 he played his first game for the first team in Bruges.

Iniesta won his place in the team without making a song and dance about it. But by the 2005/06 season he had become a key member of what became a Liga
and Champions League double winning side. From then on, Iniesta became one of Europe’s most admired footballers as he helped the team to its greatest
ever period of success.

His goals at Stamford Bridge paved the way to a dream 2009, and a run of titles that has continued through to the present day.
He has won no fewer than 16 major trophies with FC Barcelona in five and a half seasons, as well as enjoying further success in the international arena,
winning back-to-back European Championships and the first ever World Cup for Spain – and it was Iniesta’s goal against Holland in the final that won it.

Iniesta has made 479 official appearances for FC Barcelona, scoring 48 goals and winning a total of 21 major trophies.

Primera Liga: Andres Iniesta could stay at Barcelona until the end of his career



Midfielder Andres Iniesta could stay at Barcelona until the end of his career as he prepares to sign a new contract with the Primera Division club.

Iniesta will sign a new deal on Monday, according to the club's official website, and the 29-year-old spoke of his intentions following the 5-2 win over Getafe.

"It will be a good day, it's possible for me to retire at Barca," Iniesta told fcbarcelona.com.

"I hope to stay healthy and help the team win titles at the end of the season.

"We're confident. Next year we have to follow the same path and get to April and May in a position to fight for all the titles."

Iniesta signs extension until 2018



On Monday at midday, Andres Iniesta signed a new contract binding him to FC Barcelona until June 30, 2018.
The event took place in the Club offices, where the midfielder was joined by president Sandro Rosell, and the vice-president responsible for the Sports Area,
Josep Maria Bartomeu,as well as director of sport Andoni Zubizarreta and the player’s agent.
On such a special day, Andres Iniesta was also joined by his parents and daughter Valeria.

From 2017/18, his contract will be automatically extended provided he has appeared in a certain number of matches over the course of the season just ended.

29 year old Iniesta was due to end his contract in 2015.
This extension until 2018 means the FC Barcelona midfielder will have spent more than half of his life on the club’s books.
He first arrived in 1996 at the age of just 12, and if he does indeed stay until the end of the present contract, when he’ll be 34,
he will have been at FCB for 22 years.
