Irvine hopeful on Gamboa after scrutinising figures
ALAN Irvine remains hopeful Rosenborg’s Cristian Gamboa will soon become an Albion player.
The matter of the Costa Rica international’s work permit application is expected to go before an FA appeal panel this week.
And the Baggies boss admits he would be surprised if the hearing does not go in the club’s favour after scrutinising Gamboa’s international statistics.
“We're not in control, it’s out of our hands, but I think it would be amazing if we didn't get this one over the line,” said Irvine on the right-sided player,
who has agreed personal terms with Albion and has passed a medical.
“Cristian has played just over 70 per cent of the games for his country, but they’ve factored into those figures a non-Fifa ranked tournament which his club stopped him going to.
They kept Cristian back to play in some league games.”
