Newcastle agree a loan deal with Shakthar Donetsk for strikerFacundo Ferreyra. They still want another main striker on permanent dealtoo.
The Argentine striker, who was also being tracked byWest Ham, will join on loan with the view to a permanent deal after refusing to return to Shakhtar Donetsk
Newcastle United have won the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk forward Facundo Ferreyra, Goal understands.
The club have beaten off competition from a host of European clubs including a number from the Premier League - with West Ham amongst those eager to land him.
But Ferreyra is now set to head to the North East after Newcastle agreed a ?2 million [£1.6m] loan fee with the option of making the deal permanent for a further ?8m [£6.4m]. The 23-year-old moved to Shakhtar last summer but is one of a host of players, along with many others, who have grown increasingly concerned at the ongoing violent unrest in eastern Ukraine.
Ferreyra is understood to have spoken with Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini, who has recommended he join him at St James' Park.
Newcastle are now hoping to tie up the details in the coming days with a view to confirming his arrival early next week.
The arrival of Ferreyra will not end their search for another striker with Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette still in their sights, as the Argentine's signing is seen as too good an opportunity for Newcastle not to go for.
