Ricky van Wolfswinkel: Norwich City striker in St Etienne talks



Norwich City striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel is in talks with St Etienne over a potential season-long move to the French Ligue 1 side.
The Netherlands international, 25, was a club record £8.5m signing for Norwich last season, but scored only once in 27 games as they were relegated.
Boss Neil Adams told BBC Radio Norfolk: "He's been speaking to them but there are a lot of things in these deals.
"If it doesn't happen he comes back into our squad."
Van Wolfswinkel was left out of the squad for Norwich's final game of last season, a defeat by Arsenal which confirmed their relegation from the Premier League.
He had been used in pre-season friendlies this summer until an injury ruled him out of last month's tour to Italy.
"He's got to make the right decision for himself. If it happens for him it happens," added Adams, after a 2-2 friendly draw against Spanish side Celta Vigo.
"I've said many times, I'm not looking to offload players. He's more than welcome to come back here if that's his decision.
Ricky is a great lad and has been no problem whatsoever."

Norwich City manager Neil Adams has confirmed that striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel is discussing a move to St Etienne.

Van Wolfswinkel was a big-money arrival at Carrow Road last summer but, after scoring on his debut, he failed to find the net in 26 subsequent appearances.

He has been linked with a transfer away from Norwich following the club’s relegation from the Premier League and the Dutchman is now in talks over a switch to France.

“I can’t confirm he is on the move. What I can say is he is in talks with St Etienne

and he has gone over to France for a medical. If it happens, it happens,” said Adams in the Eastern Daily Press.

“There are many parts to these deals and anything over and above that is not really for me to speak about but for the board.

“I have said many, many times I am not looking to offload players and he is more than welcome to come back here if that is his decision.

“If it becomes concrete then we’ll deal with that. It is in his hands.”

Meanwhile, Adams has confirmed he has made no attempt to bring Grant Holt back to Norwich a year after the veteran striker left for Wigan Athletic.

Adams added: “I get on really well with Grant. He was a fantastic player here but I have brought two strikers in and I am happy with the squad I have got.

“You don’t say no to any player. You could ask me about any player and we all know that in football you don’t know what is going to happen. That is nothing we have looked at.”

Transfer news: Saint-Etienne boss Christophe Galtier keen on Ricky van Wolfswinkel

St Etienne manager Christophe Galtier has admitted he is keen on securing a deal for Norwich City striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Van Wolfswinkel endured a torrid first season in English football, scoring just one Premier League goal on the back of his switch from Sporting Lisbon for a club record £8.5million last summer.

A Carrow Road exit now appears to be on the cards and Canaries boss Neil Adams has already confirmed that the 25-year-old was heading to France for a medical with the Ligue 1 side.

Talks have taken place with St Etienne and Galtier is an admirer, recalling a previous meeting when the striker troubled his side.

"He played a pre-season friendly against us two years ago. He hurt us a lot and we all noticed his quality," Galtier told L’Equipe.

"Since the end of last season, we had noticed his name.

"He is a box player, which has the technical quality of Dutch players. They really have a good school for footballers but for men too."

Norwich City have agreed a deal with Saint-Etienne for striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel to join the French side on a season-long loan.

The 26-year-old will link up with the Ligue 1 outfit with immediate effect after failing to justify his £8.5million price tag as the Canaries were relegated from the Premier League last season.

The Dutchman joined Norwich from Sporting Lisbon last summer

and his career at Carrow Road started promisingly as he scored on his debut in a 2-2 draw with Everton on August 17.

However, he failed to find the net in his next 26 appearances and has now left for France.

Norwich manager Neil Adams told the club's official website:

"I can't speak highly enough about how professional Ricky has been, even though he had a difficult first season at the club.

"His attitude has been first class, and this move represents an opportunity for him to play regularly

and get back to scoring goals in the way he has done in the past. We wish him the best of luck."

Saint-Etienne manager Christophe Galtier is an admirer of Van Wolfswinkel and will be delighted with his acquisition.
