Jack Rodwell: Man City midfielder completes Sunderland move

Sunderland have signed Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell on a five-year deal.
The England international, 23, has joined the club for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £10m.
Rodwell joined City from Everton for £12m in 2012 but made only 26 appearances for the club, scoring twice.
The player struggled with a hamstring injury before falling behind other midfielders in the pecking order.
Rodwell is the second high-profile Englishman to leave Etihad Stadium this summer after Gareth Barry signed for Everton.
Having failed Uefa's Financial Fair Play rules last season, City must name at least five home-grown players in their 21-man Champions League squad this season.
Frank Lampard will join them on loan for six months from New York City FC.

Jack Rodwell has arrived in Sunderland as Gus Poyet closes in on a deal for the Manchester City midfielder.

Sunderland have been in advanced talks for the England international and a fee has been agreed between the two clubs on a five-year contract.

The 23-year-old made just 10 appearances for City last season

having been hampered by a series of injuries since his arrival from Everton in a £12million move in the summer of 2012.

The arrival of Fernando from Porto has increased the competition for places in City's star-studded line-up.

The Southport-born player is keen for regular first-team football as he looks to kick-start his career and boost his chances of adding to his three England caps,

the last of which came against Brazil in a friendly at the Maracana in June 2013.

Transfer news: Sunderland closing in on move for Manchester City's Jack Rodwell



Sky Sports understands Sunderland are closing in on the signing of Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell.

Talks between both clubs are thought to be at an advanced stage and Sunderland are hoping to tie up a deal for Rodwell in the next 24 hours.

Should Sunderland land the 23-year-old, the signing would be something of a coup for Gus Poyet's side with a host of clubs chasing the player's signature.

Half of the Premier League are believed to have been keeping tabs on Rodwell's situation, but Sunderland have emerged as favourites to land the England international.

City are willing to let Rodwell move on as he has struggled to establish himself at the Etihad Stadium due to a series of injuries since his arrival from Everton in the summer of 2012.

Rodwell made just 10 appearances for City last season and the arrival of Fernando from Porto this summer has increased the competition for places in City's star-studded line-up.

The Southport-born star is ready to move on in search of regular first-team football as he looks to kick-start his career

and boost his chances of breaking back into the England set-up, with his last of three caps to date coming against Brazil in a friendly at the Maracana in June 2013.
