Javier Aguirre named new Japan coach Former Mexico boss Javier Aguirre has been appointed as the new head coach of Japan. The 55-year-old from Mexico City replaces Italian Alberto Zaccheroni,
who resigned earlier this month after failing to guide the Blue Samurai into the knockout stages of the World Cup in Brazil.
A statement published on the Japan Football Association's official website read: "The JFA has decided that the new coach of the Samurai Blue will be Javier Aguirre."
Aguirre, who
has also managed Atletico Madrid, Real Zaragoza and Osasuna, had been out of work since leaving Espanyol in May. Japan failed to win a single game at this summer's tournament in Brazil, picking up just one point in a goalless draw
with Greece as they lost their other Group C games to Colombia and Ivory Coast.
