Liverpool open Shaqiri talks with Bayern Munich The Switzerland international, who scored a hat-trick against Honduras on Wednesday, is a target for the Reds, who would be willing to pay up to £15 million for his services By Wayne Veysey | Chief Correspondent
Liverpool are in talks with Bayern Munich over a move for winger Xherdan Shaqiri, Goal understands. The Merseysiders are willing to pay around £15 million for Shaqiri,
who scored a hat-trick for Switzerland in their 3-0 win against Honduras on Wednesday to guide them into the World Cup knockout stages.
Arsenal have also made an enquiry for the 22-year-old in May but Liverpool's interest is more concrete.
"England is an option," Shaqiri told 20 Minuten in May. "If I leave Bayern,it will be a club far from Germany but it has to be a club where I could win titles." Reds manager Brendan Rodgers wants more attacking options as he strengthens his squad for the challenge of Champions League football next season.
Rickie Lambert has already joined from Southampton for an initial £4m and
Liverpool will make another push for his former team-mate, Adam Lallana, after having a £25m bid for the Saints skipper rejected.
Shaqiri has two years remaining on his Bayern contract and has been approached by the German giants about extending his deal. However, Liverpool are willing to substantially increase his salary as well as offer more regular first-team football.
Shaqiri has struggled for playing time at Bayern since moving to the Allianz Arena from Basel two summers ago.
He started only 10 Bundesliga matches last season and a mere 13 in the previous campaign.
He has also started just a single Champions League match in two seasons for the club.
