Williams commits future to Swans Swansea City captain Ashley Williams has ended speculation of his future by signing a new four-year contract at the club. Williams’ contract had one year left to run, but
the centre-back has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at the Liberty until the summer of 2018. It ends reported interest in the Swans and Wales skipper, who will be among the travelling squad jetting off on Sunday for the club’s pre-season tour in America.
And Williams, 29, revealed his delight in tying down his future at the club.
“I’m delighted to sign a new contract at Swansea City,” beamed Williams.
“I’ve enjoyed fantastic success at this club and I want to keep helping Swansea City progress.
Williams has been a rock at the heart of the Swans defence since joining the club from Stockport County in a £400,000 deal in May 2008 following a successful loan spell.
He was part of the squad that lifted the League One title while he played a vital role in the club’s Championship Play-Off final victory at Wembley.
He would return to Wembley two years later as the Swans won the Capital One Cup,
while Williams captained the club to the last 32 of the Europa League and a 12th-placed finish in the top flight last season.
More reaction to follow.
