Manchester City 'on verge' of sealing deal for Napoli midfielder JorginhoManchester City are on the verge of completing a deal to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho according to the president of the Italian club.City have been trying to reach a compromise over the size of the fee demanded by Napoli for more than a week, but there appears to have been significant progress made over the weekend.
The Italy international has been a long-standing transfer target for City, but they had refused to be forced into paying an extortionate price for the 26-year-old.
City have had a bid of around 50m Euros turned down already this summer, but Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is confident the transfer will go through after further talks were held.
"I think the deal can be done in the next few days," De Laurentiis told Sun Sport. "Everything is possible as we have a good relationship with Manchester City and their people but we must negotiate.
"We are still not in agreement over the price for the player, but we'll be near to the conclusion as they made an effort in the last few days."City were already aware of Jorginho’s quality, but he impressed Guardiola during City’s Champions League games against Napoli last season, when the decision was made to pursue his signature in this transfer window.
Jorginho, who was born in Brazil and holds dual citizenship, has made 133 Serie A appearances for Napoli since joining the club from Hellas Verona in 2014.
He can play in a variety of midfield positions, but is likely to be used in a more defensive role by City, providing De Laurentiis’ positive assessment of the negotiations is shared in Manchester
