Roma make loan offer for Arsenal star Henrikh Mkhitaryan ahead of European transfer deadline Roma have made a loan offer for Arsenal playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan ahead of the European transfer deadline. The Serie A giants have asked Arsenal about a season-long loan move for Mkhitaryan who has struggled to hold down a regular place at the Emirates since his move from Manchester United . But Mkhitaryan was a substitute in the North London derby and started at Newcastle as well as being on £200,000-a-week which could be a stumbling block. Arsenal have been keen to trim their squad and reduce their wage bill and the purge has already seen Nacho Monreal and Mohammed Elneny leave this weekend.
The signing of Mkhitaryan for Roma would add to the capture of Manchester United's Chris Smalling on loan earlier this week.
The defender was confirmed as a Roma player for the season on Saturday and was on the bench for their 1-1 draw with Lazio on Sunday.
Mkhitaryan rose to prominence whilst at Borussia Dortmund, Mkhitaryan made 140 appearances in three seasons in Germany.
During his time under Jurgen Klopp he made 49 assists and scored 41 goals.
The attacking midfielder then made the switch to Old Trafford in the summer of 2016 but found it difficult to settle.
In two seasons with the Red Devils, Mkhitaryan made 63 appearances, contributing 13 goals and 11 assists.
He then ended his under-whelming time at Manchester United in 2017 in the swap deal for Alexis Sanchez.
Since his move to north London, Mkhitaryan has made 59 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and making 13 assists.
