Arsenal set to finalise ?10 million transfer of Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morataby TomConn | Posted on Wednesday, May 28th, 2014
Real Madrid and Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement on the long-rumoured transfer of Alvaro Morata to English Premier League side, Arsenal with the Gunners paying ?10 million for the Spanish U-21 star, while Real Madrid will retain a two-year buy-back option, similar to the deal that sent Dani Carvajal to Bayer Leverkusen two-years ago. According to La Informacion’s Victor Gil, Real Madrid and Arsenal reached an agreement before last Saturday’s Champions League final as Los Blancos realised that in order for Morata to reach his full potential, he needs to play consistent minutes in top flight football. Arsenal twice requested the services of Morata, but were rejected twice as the 21-year-old wished to stay and fight for minutes that would never come,
and following the emergence of Jese, before his devastating knee injury, Morata’s minutes would only further be limited once Jese is healed.
Prior to the Champions League final, the report goes on to state that all three parties reached an agreement with Real Madrid and Morata
both insisting on the
Champions League winners retaining the two-year repurchase option rather than accepting a full transfer, which would have been for the amount of ?25 million.
The announcement is expected within the next coming days, as Morata has begun to make arrangements for his move to England.
Morata has only played 738 minutes, making 34 appearances, but only six starts. He’s scored nine goals, eight of which were scored in La Liga.
