Trio miss out as Ghana finalise squad

Jerry Akaminko, Jeffrey Schlupp and David Accam failed to make the final cut
as Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah named his 23-man squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™.

Eskisehirspor defender Akaminko picked up an ankle injury during the closing stages of the friendly defeat to Holland on Saturday and is out for three months,
while Leicester defender Schlupp and Helsingborg midfielder Accam also miss out from the original 26-man selection.

Appiah's final squad includes 16 players contesting their first World Cup, but there is plenty of experience elsewhere,
with captain Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari preparing for their third finals and Jonathan Mensah, Michael Essien, Kwadwo Asamoah,
Andre Ayew and Kevin-Prince Boateng about to contest their second.

Ghana travel to Miami for the final stages of their build up to Brazil, with one more friendly to come against fellow finalists South Korea on 9 June.
Their World Cup Group G campaign kicks off against the United States on June 16, before meetings with Germany and Portugal.

Ghana squad:

Goalkeepers: Fatau Dauda (Orlando Pirates), Adam Kwarasey (Stromsgodset), Stephen Adams (Aduana Stars)

Defenders: Samuel Inkoom (Platanias), Daniel Opare (Standard Liege), Harrison Afful (Esperance), John Boye (Rennes), Jonathan Mensah (Evian),
Rashid Sumalia (Mamelodi Sundowns)

Midfielders: Michael Essien (AC Milan), Sulley Muntari (AC Milan), Rabiu Mohammed (Kuban Krasnodar), Kwadwo Asamoah (Juventus), Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (Udinese),
Afriyie Acquah (Parma), Christian Atsu (Vitesse Arnhem), Albert Adomah (Middlesbrough), Andre Ayew (Marseille), Mubarak Wakaso (Rubin Kazan)

Forwards: Asamoah Gyan (Al Ain), Kevin-Prince Boateng (Schalke), Abdul Majeed Waris (Valenciennes), Jordan Ayew (Sochaux).

World Cup 2014: Ivory Coast coach opts for experience

Ivory Coast coach Sabri Lamouchi has selected a vastly experienced 23-man World Cup squad.
Striker Didier Drogba, capped 99 times, spearheads the so-called "golden generation" who will have a last chance to grab glory in Brazil.
Brothers Yaya and Kolo Toure are joined by fellow Premier League-based stars Cheick Tiote and Wilfried Bony.

Forward Lacina Traore, who had an injury-ravaged loan spell at Everton, was cut from the provisional squad.
The 6ft 8in striker made only two appearances for the Premier League club during his temporary spell from Monaco.
He scored on his debut on 16 February but then was kept out by a leg problem until the final day of the campaign when he came off the bench in the 90th minute.
Lamouchi decided not to gamble on his fitness as he cut five players from his original 28-man squad.
Goalkeeper Badra Ali, defenders Benjamin Angoua and Brice Dja Djedje, and striker Seydou Doumbia were also left out.

"I've known a few difficult moments in my two years as national coach of the Ivory Coast, like when I was appointed, the criticism,
the pressure to get results etc. But today has been by far the most difficult day," said Lamouchi when he announced his final selection on Sunday.
The Elephants will face Colombia, Greece and Japan in Group C, which appears to be a much easier draw than in their two previous appearances at the tournament.
Unlucky 2006 and 2010 group draws resulted in the West Africans finishing third behind Argentina
and the Netherlands in Germany and third behind Brazil and Portugal in South Africa.
Former Chelsea star Drogba, 36, is confident his side will do better this time.
"Competing at the previous two tournaments was very difficult," said the Galatasaray player. "We have a realistic chance to do better in Brazil and get past the first round."

Goalkeepers: Boubacar Barry (Lokeren), Sylvain Gbohouo (Sewe Sport), Sayouba Sande (Stabaek).

Defenders: Kolo Toure (Liverpool), Sol Bamba (Trabzonspor), Didier Zokora (Trabzonspor), Serge Aurier (Toulouse), Arthur Boka (Stuttgart),
Ousmane Viera Diarrassouba (Caykur Rizespor), Constant Djakpa (Frankfurt), Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro (Toulouse).

Midfielders: Yaya Toure (Manchester City), Cheik Tiote (Newcastle), Serey Die (Basel), Max Gradel (Saint Etienne), Diomande Ismael (Saint Etienne),
Didier Ya Konan (Hannover), Mathis Bolly (Dusseldorf).

Forwards: Gervinho (Roma), Didier Drogba (Galatasaray), Salomon Kalou (Lille), Wilfried Bony (Swansea), Giovanni Sio (Basel).

World Cup 2014: Idrissou dropped from Cameroon

Mohamadou Idrissou is one of the five players to be dropped from Cameroon's final squad for the World Cup.
The 34-year-old Kaiserslautern striker has struggled in recent times and missed a penalty in a 2-1 friendly loss to Paraguay last week.
Otherwise coach Volker Finke has opted for a tried and trusted line-up for his World Cup squad.
Coton Sport duo Loic Feidjou and Cedric Djeugoue are the only two locally based players on the 23-man list.

Djeugoue sealed his place on the plane to Brazil with an impressive display in the Indomitable Lions' 2-2 draw with Germany on Sunday.
The other players to miss out are goalkeeper Guy Roland Ndy Assembe, midfielder Cedro Loe and defenders Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik and Gaetang Bong.
Much will be expected of forward Vincent Aboubakar after his 16 goals for Lorient last season.
That made him joint-second highest scorer in the French Ligue 1 behind only Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
He is set to partner elder statesman Samuel Eto'o, who remains Cameroon's all-time leading scorer with 55 goals.
Cameroon are the most successful African team at the World Cup, qualifying for the tournament seven times
and in Italy in 1990 they became the first team from the continent to reach the quarter-finals.
In Brazil they will face the hosts, Croatia and Mexico in Group A.

Goalkeepers: Charles Itandje (Konyaspor, Turkey), Sammy Ndjock (Fethiyespor, Turkey), Lioc Feudjou (Coton Sport)

Defenders: Allan Nyom (Granada, Spain), Nounkeu Dany (Besiktas, Turkey), Cedric Djeugoue (Coton Sport), Aurelien Chedjou (Galatasaray, Turkey),
Nicolas Nkoulou (Marseille, France), Henri Bedimo (Lyon, France), Benoit Assou-Ekotto (QPR, on loan from Tottenham, England)

Midfielders: Enoh Eyong (Antalyaspor, Turkey), Jean Makoun (Rennes, France), Joel Matip (Schalke 04, Germany),
Stephane Mbia (Sevilla, Spain on loan from QPR, England), Landry Nguemo (Bordeaux, France), Alexandre Song (Barcelona, Spain), Edgar Salli (Lens, France)

Forwards: Samuel Eto'o (Chelsea, France), Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting (Mainz 05, Germany), Benjamin Moukandjo (Nancy, France), Vincent Aboubakar (Lorient, France),
Pierre Achille Webo (Fenerbahce, Turkey), Fabrice Olinga (Zulte Waregem, Belgium)
