Klose opts for new deal with Lazio(AFP) Friday 2 May 2014
Veteran German striker Miroslav Klose is poised to end his career with Lazio after signing a new one-year deal with an extra year's option, the Italian Serie A club announced. Klose, who signed a three-year contract with Lazio in June 2011,
has signed a new one-year deal worth ?2.5m a season, Lazio said on their official Twitter account.
The Polish-born Germany international
has the option of another 12-month deal meaning he could remain in Rome until the end of the 2015/2016 campaign, just before he turns 38 on 9 June. "I'm very happy," Klose was quoted as saying. "I'm part of a major project and I have an important role to play in this project." Klose is set to play his last FIFA World Cup™ with Germany, for whom he has scored 14 goals in three previous editions -- a national record he shares with legend Gerd Muller and which is only one behind the all-time record of 15 World Cup goals held by retired Brazilian Ronaldo.
With 68 goals in 131 appearances, Klose is also tied with Muller in Germany's all-time list of goalscorers.
Last season, Klose became only the eighth player in post-war Serie A to score five goals in a single game, during a 6-0 win over Bologna in May 2013.
This season the 35-year-old striker has been dogged by injury, scoring only seven goals in 22 appearances for the Biancocelesti.
With three games remaining, Lazio sit in seventh place, 41 points behind leaders Juventus, but are still in contention to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
