Liverpool left sweating on Daniel Sturridge injury as striker set for tests

Liverpool’s title hopes may have been dealt a blow with reports suggesting Daniel Sturridge may be out of action for the remainder of the season.

The striker, who has scored 23 league goals this season, was substituted during yesterday’s 3-2 victory over Manchester City with a hamstring problem and is set to undergo tests today to determine the severity of the injury.

‘We’ll see how he is over the next couple of days,’ said Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.

‘He felt a wee bit of tightness in his hamstring, so we’ll just see how that is in the next couple of days.’

Liverpool are already set to miss Jordan Henderson for three of their four remaining matches, after the midfielder was shown a straight red card yesterday.

He will now have to sit out trips to Norwich and Crystal Palace, either side of the crucial visit of Chelsea.

Daniel Sturridge Injury latest

The striker had to be withdrawn in the 66th minute of last weekend's 3-2 win over Manchester City.

Sturridge has since underwent further assessment with the club's medical team at Melwood and a small strain was detected following a scan.

The 24-year-old will now undergo a treatment programme in order to try and be available for the trip to Carrow Road.
