Liga - Report: Ronaldo ‘to meet with Manchester United this week’
A report in Spanish newspaper El Pais claims that Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United are to meet this week as rumours hover over his future.

The Real Madrid forward has been the subject of rumours over his future for some months, with many tipping him for a return to his former club.

According to El Pais, the meeting was set for the coming days before Ronaldo returns from holiday to Spain for pre-season training, but as FIFA prohibits clubs making official contact with contracted players of rival clubs, both Ronaldo and United have agreed to deny all knowledge of it.

Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is believed to have been told that if Ronaldo runs down his contract so that he could leave on a free transfer, United would offer a signing-on fee of ?50m (around £42m), on top of a net salary of ?14m a year (£11.9m).

Ronaldo, for his part, is not certain – his principal doubt, the Spanish report claims, is new manager David Moyes. From a footballing perspective he is also happy in Madrid, but was angered by club president Florentino Perez when he said that "everything has a limit" when referring to his contract negotiations.

The player took to Twitter on June 13 to say that: “All the news about my renewal with Real Madrid are false.”

Though it was not clear what he was denying, El Pais report that it was taken negatively at the Bernabeu.

Speaking at his unveiling, new Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said he was looking forward to working with Ronaldo.

“Cristiano is a great player and I'm honoured to work with him,” the Italian said.

“I've coached Zidane, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, and I'm honoured to add him.”
