Newcastle United will make one final attempt to convince Rafael Benitez to sign a new contract this week as it appears increasingly likely he will quit the club.

Benitez’s contract will expire on June 30 and he is expected to announce he is leaving St James' Park after three-and-a-half years as he is unhappy with the personal terms offered and the size of the transfer budget available to him.

Benitez has been told he will have around £60 million in this summer’s window and can also raise money from player sales. But, although exceptions could be made, he was also warned that the club could not sanction long-term deals for players over the age of 28, particularly as he was only considering a one-year extension himself.

Newcastle believe there is still a chance he will stay and plan to hold further talks this week in an attempt to get him to change his mind. That, though, looks unlikely given the lack of progress so far this summer.

The club's hierarchy have repeatedly stressed to the Spaniard that they want him to stay and have offered a variety of contracts to him over the last 18 months, but the 59-year-old has refused to sign any of them.

Telegraph Sport understands there has been no thought given as to who will replace Benitez if he does leave, even though he has received several lucrative offers from China. That will change in the next 48 hours if there is no sign of an agreement being reached.

That has hardened Benitez’s desire to depart as soon as his contract has finished, but he has still not told anyone at Newcastle that he wants to quit, which leaves the door open to a further round of negotiations this week.

Newcastle have been stuck in limbo while they have waited for their manager to make a decision and have no new signings lined up. Benitez’s departure would leave them in a desperate scramble to find a replacement, even though there will be plenty of interests from managers in and out of work.

《泰晤士報》記者George Caulkin報導，紐卡素方面已接受領隊賓尼迪斯（Rafa Benitez）不會續約，並開始尋找新的主帥。

賓尼迪斯在紐卡素的合約即將在6月30日到期，但暫時為止雙方尚未安排新的談判，如是者他將會離開這家東北球會。報道指，賓尼迪斯和班主艾殊利（Mike Ashley）的互信已經受損、甚至無法修補，故此他不會在後者掌舵下繼續執教球隊。而且，艾殊利正在與阿聯酋的賓薩耶（Bin Zayed）集團商議賣盤交易，使情勢更為複雜。

在賓帥帶領下，紐卡素於2017/18年球季重返英超，並於近兩季分別獲得第10及第13的聯賽排名。

Benitez has known since early June that Mike Ashley was not prepared to budge on the terms of the contract offered back on May 17.


Back then Lee Charnley continued the dialogue over telephone and email as Benitez attempted to get more leeway on transfer funds and the club's policy of signing players over 24.

But since then, United have stuck to their guns, and Benitez has waited to see if there is a change in mind from the powers that be.

As it stands on Monday morning there are no talks planned this week to renegotiate and a take it or leave it offer remains on the table.

With fans desperate for information it is likely that there will be no updates from the club on Benitez until his contract expires after June 30.
