Arsenal are set to speak to Thierry Henry about their vacant managerial position before confirming the successor to Arsene Wenger. Mikel Arteta remains the preferred candidate of chief executive Ivan Gazidis and director Josh Kroenke, son of owner Stan, and it is likely that the Spaniard will be installed as the new boss. However, Sportsmail understands there are also plans to talk to Henry early next week as the club complete what has been a thorough recruitment process. They have already spoken to former midfielder Patrick Vieira and also want to listen to their club record goalscorer before formally announcing the identity of the new man.
Henry - currently assistant boss of Belgium - would have to give a fairly persuasive pitch for the Gunners hierarchy to reconsider their preference for Arteta.
The 36-year-old who has been Pep Guardiola’s right-hand man at Manchester City this season.
Henry, 40, has no managerial experience but has stated previously he would like to manage his old club.
It is understood that Arteta is 90 per cent likely to take the helm at Emirates Stadium. Massimiliano Allegri was another candidate in the frame but committed his immediate future to Juventus, saying he will be at the club next season.
