Wayne Rooney could be sandwiched between the deadly duo of Neymar and Lionel Messi next season, with reports emerging of Barcelona's interest in the striker. According to the Sun, Barca will be ready to move for the 27-year-old if talks with Manchester United boss David Moyes this week fail to yield a contract extension. Real Madrid and Chelsea are also interested in Rooney, but Barca look the most likely party as they search for a replacement to cover the imminent departure of David Villa. Sources suggested to the Sun that Rooney would be utilised chiefly as a forward in the Barcelona line-up, with his work rate making him an ideal candidate.

Despite reports earlier today that Napoli and Chelsea have agreed a deal for the transfer of Edinson Cavani, the Mirrorreports Manchester United have weighed in for the Uruguayan with a £50million bid. That's £8m less than what Chelsea have apparently pledged to hand over to the Serie A club, but David Moyes is confident of replacing Rooney with the 26-year-old.

Manchester City have given up their pursuit of Malaga midfielder Isco, the Sun says. Although the 21-year-old has not yet accepted an offer from Real Madrid, it is believed Manuel Pellegrini is resigned to the fact that Isco is likely to remain in his home country as the Bernabeu looms. Isco has told Pellegrini he will not turn down the lure of Real and the new City boss is content with his summer signings Fernandinho and Jesus Navas.

Marouane Fellaini's potential move to Arsenal could have a deal breaking barrier - his wage demands. According to theDaily Mail, the Belgian will settle for no less than £100,000-a-season, citing the hefty pay packet of Theo Walcott and Gunners target Gonzalo Higuain as reason enough to open his pockets a bit wider. Although Arsenal are keen to bolster their midfield, they are likely to balk at Fellaini's request in search of a more cost efficient option.
