City confirm deal for Brazilian full-back
Cardiff City are pleased to announce the signing of Brazilian International full-back Fabio da Silva from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.Fabio will wear squad number 35 and will be immediately available for selection ahead of Saturday’s Barclays Premier League clash with Norwich City at Cardiff City Stadium.
Speaking on the move, the 23-year old said: “I’m very excited to be part of this and I’m looking forward to helping Cardiff. I was at Old Trafford on Tuesday – supporting Cardiff but hoping that my brother did well too, of course!
“I know this is the right move for me. I spoke a lot to the Manager about coming in and I know that I can help us move up the division.”
Fabio began his career with Brazilian club Fluminese alongside identical twin brother Rafael, with both joining Manchester United in January 2008 without either having made a senior appearance for the Brazilian side.
Fabio made his debut for United in a 2-0 pre-season win over Peterborough United, working with City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær in the Manchester United reserve set up in 2008 before making his senior debut in 2009 in a 2-1 FA Cup fourth round victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Fabio has since made 56 appearances for United in all competitions, scoring three goals.
Last season Fabio spent a season long loan with Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League making 23 appearances for the R’s before returning to Old Trafford in the summer.
A twice capped Brazilian International, Fabio represented his country in games against Costa Rica and Mexico in 2011 after an extensive spell with the Brazilian Under-17 squad, scoring 10 goals in 13 appearances despite being a defender.
All at Cardiff City welcome Fabio to the Club.
