Newcastle view Iceland international Alfred Finnbogason as a January sales bargainNewcastle are tracking Iceland international Alfred Finnbogason with a view to signing the Heerenveen striker in the January sales.
The Magpies were offered the 24-year-old finisher during the summer for just £5million but put their efforts into a failed attempt to sign Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon while Darren Bent also slipped from their grasp when he joined Fulham from Aston Villa. Finnbogason is back in their radar and sources in Tyneside have revealed that scouts were sent to watch him play in the World Cup qualifierwith Switzerland on Friday, which ended in a 4-4 draw.Newcastle did not pay a penny in transfer fees in the recent window and their only capture was Loic Remy from QPR on loan.Toon Army chairman Mike Ashley prefers to conduct his business in the new year when he believes there are more bargains available but his policy has upset a section of the club’s support.
