Gareth Bale: Real Madrid agree personal terms with Spurs forward

Gareth Bale has agreed personal terms at Real Madrid ahead of his world-record move from Tottenham.

However, the Spanish giants are still in discussions over the fee for the 24-year-old forward, with a bid of £86m already submitted to Spurs.

"While talks in Madrid took some days, this was always a formality," says BBC chief sports correspondent Dan Roan.

"The agreement over personal terms has no bearing on the timing of the actual transfer being announced."

In addition to the world-record offer, which would eclipse the £80m Real paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, the Bernabeu club have also submitted an alternative bid of close to £70m, which would be a one-off payment for the Wales international.

"The conclusion of talks over personal terms is separate from negotiations between Real Madrid and Spurs regarding the amount and structuring of a transfer fee," Roan added.

"All that remains now is for Spurs to formally accept Real Madrid's offer and to agree on simultaneous announcements."

Bale, who joined Spurs in a £10m deal from Southampton in 2007, was named player of the year by both the Professional Footballers' Association and Football Writers last season after scoring 26 goals for the White Hart Lane side.

He has been linked with a move to Real all summer, with Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas saying on Wednesday the transfer "could happen very, very soon".

The north London club have been active in the transfer window themselves, with six international players signed for a total outlay understood to be more than £90m.

On Friday, the club announced the signings of Roma forward Erik Lamela and Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches to add to the earlier arrivals of midfielders Etienne Capoue and Paulinho, winger Nacer Chadli and striker Roberto Soldado.

Tottenham are prepared to make Real Madrid wait for Gareth Bale until after this weekend's north London derby with Arsenal, Sky sources understand.
Bale's world-record £86m move to the Bernabeu has yet to be sealed as the player and his proposed new employers become increasingly agitated.
Real vice-president Fernando Fernandez-Tapias accused Spurs this week of dragging their feet over the deal and warned that the Spanish side was a great one even without the winger.
The Wales international's representatives are understood to be holding talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy on Friday in a bid to finally bring an end to the saga of the summer.
But it is thought Spurs are determined to string out negotiations until after Sunday's showdown, for fear of triggering a series of events that could see up to three players join the Gunners from Madrid.
Reports on Friday claimed Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, under pressure to make signings before Monday's deadline, was willing to blow his entire transfer budget on Real trio Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria.
Spurs are also thought to have been irked by Real's decision to erect a stage to unveil their marquee man before the final handshakes.
Asked on Thursday if he thought that Bale would sign for Madrid, Fernandez-Tapias said: "I think so, yes, but I could not swear to it entirely.
"We are going to wait and see what happens. Sometimes it is yes, sometimes it is no: they keep putting it off.
"(Bale) is not here, because there are problems there. We thought Bale was going to be with us by now but for the time being he is still not in Madrid.
"I don't doubt the value of the player but Real Madrid without Bale is still a strong Madrid. We have a great team."

GARETH BALE'S new boots have been mailed from Adidas, straight to Real Madrid.

That's according to a picture that's surfaced, showing the package with the mailing address plastered on the side, featuring the Welsh wizard's name along with the bootsmaker's.
Spanish paper AS reported on Friday that the box had arrived at Real Madrid’s training facilities in Valdebebas.
It was allegedly delivered by DHL Express Company for Bale to wear at his impending presentation at the Bernabeu.
It was recently revealed that Bale had completed talks with Real Madrid over personal terms, with his proposed move now waiting on the two clubs working out the final fee.

Sky sources report that Gareth Bale's move from Tottenham to Real Madrid is to be confirmed later today.

A world-record deal for Bale was thrashed out late last night and the 24-year-old is expected to be presented to the Madrid fans tomorrow.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol confirmed the long-running saga which has dominated the summer is likely to be over before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Monday.

"My understanding is there has been a breakthrough," said Solhekol at White Hart Lane this morning. "Gareth Bale is on the verge of becoming a Real Madrid player for a world-record fee and the deal could go through today.

"I have been told that the deal has been thrashed out at late night meeting last night. There was a breakthrough and a deal was agreed and it is set to be announced either today or tomorrow.

"I've also been told by sources close to Gareth Bale that the deal will go through today, but I have to stress as it stands nothing official has been signed yet."
