Arsenal are considering a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo with the German giants ready to let him go.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is currently working on bringing a big name striker to the Emirates Stadium, with Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain among his targets.
But the Frenchman is also looking to strengthen in other areas, and Brazilian utility man Gustavo is being seen as a man who would help fill gaps in several problem positions.
Arsenal primarily see Gustavo as a defensive midfield option, but he can also play in central defence and at full-back – providing key cover

Wenger is yet to make his interest fully known, but it’s thought that Arsenal could offer up to £8million to bring the 25-year-old to the Premier League.
Bayern have not ruled out hanging onto the player for another 12 months, but reports in Germany suggest they are ready to let him go if the price is right.
Wolfsburg and Brazilian side Corinthians are also keen on Gustavo, but it’s thought that the midfielder wants to stay in Europe with a Champions League club.
Gustavo has two years left on his Bayern contract.

Chelsea and Arsenal are set to battle Wolfsburg for Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo, according to reports in Germany.
Gustavo is believed to be surplus to requirements in Pep Guardiola’s squad, with the former Barcelona boss already having the likes of Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, Mario Gotze, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Javi Martinez, Toni Kroos and new signing Thiago Alcantara at his disposal.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea are thought to be interested in bringing the 26-year-old to the Premier League, although the duo face stiff competition from Wolfsburg, who are leading the chase.
Gustavo has hinted he could leave the Allianz Arena this summer, and Arsenal were linked with a £15m bid for the Brazilian international only last week.

‘I am very happy at Bayern, but anything can happen before August 31st,’ he told German newspaper Bild.Gustavo, a holding midfielder who can also be utilised across the back, is a player who would slot well into the Gunners’ side, with Arsene Wenger looking to strengthen his defensive options.
He could also be a replacement at Stamford Bridge for Nigerian John Obi Mikel, should reports of a summer departure from Chelsea come to fruition.

Arsenal ‘see off Chelsea to agree £14m deal for Bayern Munich star Luiz Gustavo’

Arsenal are believed to have agreed a £14m deal to sign Bayern Munich’s Luiz Gustavo.

The Gunners have been tracking the midfielder all summer and are said to have beaten off competition from Chelsea and Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for Gustavo’s signature.

If Arsenal can agree personal terms with the 26-year-old he will become Arsene Wenger’s second signing of the summer, following the arrival of French youngster Yaya Sanogo.

Gustavo has become surplus to requirements in Pep Guardiola’s side, who beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 in last night’s opening league fixture, with the likes of Mario Gotze, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Javi Martinez, Toni Kroos and new signing Thiago Alcantara ally vying for a spot in the side.

The Brazilian international started just 16 Bundesliga games last term for the eventual champions and had to settle for an 89th-minute substitute appearance in the Champions League final, where Bayern beat Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.
