Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has been sacked as manager of Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala after just two games in charge.Meulensteen will be replaced by Gadzhi Gadzhiyev –currently at Krylia Sovetov – after presiding over one draw and one defeat since taking over from former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink just 17days ago.Club owner Suleyman Kerimov has also sensationally put the entire Anzhi squad up for sale after having become frustrated by the side's poor performances this season.
Kerimov has invested hundreds of millions of pounds in Anzhi since taking over in August 2011.
The Russian billionaire has financed the signings of several high-profile players, including Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o, who was made the highest paid player in the world on wages of a reported £350,000 a week.
Kerimov now appears to have turned his back on this policy, which in his eyes has clearly failed, in order to reorient the club towards a more sustainable future - and one that he believes will bring greater success on the pitch.
Infighting amongst Anzhi's star players is rumoured to be behind the team's poor showings so far this season.
Midfielder Igor Denisov, who arrived from Zenit St Petersburg this summer for a £12.5m fee, has criticsed the attitude of some Anzhi players, likening them to mercenaries.
Meulensteen, it would appear, has paid the price for being unable to control the internal disputes bubbling under the surface at Azhi.
As the Dutchman is shown the door by Kerimov, he is expected to be followed out of Anzhi by players such as Eto'o, Aleskandr Kokorin, Christopher Samba, Yuti Zhirkov, Lacina Traore and Willian. http://www.sportsdirectnews.com/european-football/29641-meulensteen-sacked-after-two-games-at-anzhi.php [ 此帖被barrin在2013-08-07 23:37重新編輯 ]
