Crystal Palace hope to borrow Arsenal misfit Marouane Chamakh on loan for the first half of the season.
The Eagles want the 29-year-old forward, who has started just 19 Premier League games for the Gunners since his move from Bordeaux three years ago, to fill in while striker Glenn Murray recovers from a knee injury.
Chamakh joined West Ham on loan in January but again failed to find his form and barely featured under Sam Allardyce. However, despite this Palace manager Ian Holloway feels the Moroccan can provide the goals to help the south London club stay out of the relegation zone.
Former Hammers striker Carlton Cole was Holloway’s original target but he is heading to French club St Etienne on a two-year deal after failing to agree personal terms after being offered a one-year deal at Selhurst Park.
Palace’s move for Newcastle United midfielder Dan Gosling has also collapsed after the Magpies player claimed the Eagles did not get in contact with him after he passed a medical.
