Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce the club has signed Uruguayaninternational Edinson Cavani from SSC Napoli to a five-year contract.He will wear the number 9 jersey. Edinson Cavani, bornin Salto in 1987, signed for Montevideo club Danubio FC in 2000 and,after coming through the club's youth ranks, made his professional debutduring the 2005-06 season. The following year he scored five goals in15 appearances.
In 2007 he transferred to Italian side US Palermo, where he playedwith current Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu. The No.7quickly imposed himself at the point of the attack alongside anothercurrent Parisian in Javier Pastore during the 2009-10 campaign.
Approached by several clubs, he joined SSC Napoli in the summer of2010. In his first season, the man nicknamed 'El Matador' scored 26league goals, setting a new club record in Serie A.
After winning the Copa America with Uruguay in 2011, Edinson Cavanienjoyed an excellent 2011-12 season alongside another current Parisplayer Ezequiel Lavezzi. He lifted the Coppa Italia with SSC Napoli,scoring five goals in the competition.
Last season he scored 38 goals in 43 matches in all competitions,including 29 in Serie A. It was a performance that saw him namedCapocannoniere, awarded to the competition's top scorer.
