Gary Rowett and Martin O'Neill are front-runners under consideration by Stoke City as a possible replacement for Mark Hughes, Sky Sports News understands.

Stoke are hopeful of appointing a new manager this week after the dismissal of Mark Hughes, with Derby’s Gary Rowett emerging as a serious contender for the Premier League strugglers.

Slaven Bilic ISN’T being considered for #scfc job. Martin O’Neill still strong option - poss til end of season. But not clear whether he would accept that, with verbal agreement for #ireland to 2020. There are other candidates too. May not have new man in place for #mufc on Mon.

Sánchez Flores has decision to make. Stoke are insisting and he’s the favourite. Club representatives met him in Barcelona with impressive long term plan while Espanyol haven’t kept all promises. Stoke want answer soon. So it is a yes (and be in Stoke early next week) or he stays

Stoke are waiting to hear whether Quique Sanchez Flores will accept their offer to take over as manager. The former Watford boss is expected to inform Stoke of his decision, together with his current employers at Espanyol, later today.

The issue of compensation is not thought to be a problem between the two clubs.

We understand that if Sanchez Flores turns Stoke down, the club will instead firm up an offer to Martin O’Neill.
