Everton are ready to make a £20million bid for Arsenal forward Theo Walcott.

Sam Allardyce is confident of beating competition from Southampton with Arsenal likely to sell during the January window.

It follows Walcott’s latest Arsenal snub after he was left on the bench for the Carabao Cup semi final.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger picked Alex Iwobi ahead of Walcott even after the 21-year-old broke club rules by partying ahead of the FA Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Wenger also called up Danny Welbeck to start ahead of Walcott which has made it clear where the 28-year-old now stands in the pecking order.

Walcott is keen to get more regular games and is prepared to move to help get his career back on track.

Southampton had appeared favourites to get him but Everton boss Allardyce is keen and they are hopeful of doing a deal with Arsenal - and matching his wages.

Walcott is on up to £140,000-a-week with bonuses after 12 years at Arsenal where he has scored 108 goals and played for England 47 times.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright also questioned Wenger’s decision to pick Iwobi after the midfielder was pictured in the early hours of Saturday, the day before an FA Cup tie.

Wright told Sky Sports: “In the current climate, for a young player to go out and do that with Arsenal going through what they’re going through now — experienced players wanting to leave, there’s no leadership — Arsene Wenger should have made a better stance on this. A stronger stance.

“Because Arsenal have got to find what we are losing at the moment. People laugh at us — they see it as a bit of a joke with what’s going on at the moment — players don’t want to be there. It just feels like we are losing control.

“What’s it saying to Theo? He’s got a youngster that’s gone out less than 48 hours before the game, still plays in that game, plays in this game and you can’t get a game in front of him. You’ve got to start thinking about your own future.”

Everton are poised to make a £20 million bid for Theo Walcott, following the forward’s latest Arsenal snub.

Walcott was left on the bench for Arsenal’s Carabao Cup goalless draw with Chelsea, even though Alex Iwobi broke club rules by partying ahead of the FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Despite promising Iwobi would be punished, Wenger started the 21 year-old ahead of Walcott for the trip to Chelsea and also preferred Danny Welbeck to him after deciding to relegate Alexis Sanchez to the substitutes’ bench.

Sanchez, who Arsenal are growing resigned to losing to Manchester City this month, stepped off the bench, but Walcott was once again a spectator. That has increased the chances of Walcott ending his 12-year stay at Arsenal this month and Everton are currently in pole position, ahead of Southampton, to land the England international.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would prefer Walcott to stay at the Emirates, but could be prepared to let him go if Welbeck remains fit and Olivier Giroud does not suffer an injury setback.

Everton hope that an offer in the region of £20m will be enough to tempt Wenger into selling, while they are also ready to match Walcott’s £110,000-a-week Arsenal wages.

Having signed striker Cenk Tosun, Everton manager Sam Allardyce wants to add pace to his attack and believes Walcott could reignite his career at Goodison Park. Allardyce also thinks he can give Walcott the chance to make a late run to try to force his way into England’s World Cup squad, however unlikely that may currently seem.

Walcott is yet to start a Premier League game this season and has seen himself left out of Wenger’s match-day squad entirely when the Frenchman has had all of his attackers to pick from.

During his 12 years with the club, 28-year-old Walcott has scored 108 goals for Arsenal and has made 47 appearances for England, scoring eight times.

Southampton are also prepared to offer Walcott the chance to go back to the club where he started his career, but the Saints would have to convince him to join a relegation fight.

Everton and Southampton have held high-level talks with Arsenal about signing England forward Theo Walcott in a permanent transfer this month.

Several clubs have enquired about a loan deal for Walcott, 28, but Arsenal will only consider a sale - otherwise he will stay until the summer.

While not agitating to leave, the player is frustrated at a lack of games and is open to joining the Toffees or Saints to reignite his career.

Walcott's contract runs until 2019.

If he departs mid-season, he is not interested in a move to a foreign club.

Another Gunners forward who could leave this month is Alexis Sanchez, a target for Manchester City.

Arsenal are in no rush to sanction Walcott's exit - they want to asses the condition of Olivier Giroud after a hamstring injury and fellow striker Danny Welbeck following a series of problems.

If Giroud and Welbeck prove their fitness and Arsenal suffer no other major setbacks, it is likely Walcott will leave 12 years after joining from Southampton.

Returning to his first professional team has always appealed to Walcott, though Everton's ambition to challenge the established top six of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham is also understood to be an attraction.

Walcott was selected by Toffees boss Sam Allardyce during his short spell as England manager and is thought to be enthusiastic about the idea of playing under him again.

Everton are also understood to be more likely than Southampton to pay the transfer fee being sought by the Gunners - reportedly about £20m - and Walcott's £110,000-per-week salary.

Another factor in any decision could be Everton's position in the Premier League - they are in ninth place, while Southampton are only one place above the relegation zone.

Walcott arrived at Arsenal in January 2006 - for £5m rising to about £12.5m - and has scored 108 goals in 396 appearances, with eight goals in 47 games for England.

Earlier on Thursday, Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino said: "We know Walcott is a very good player but now it is not my concern to talk about players not in the club.

"We have to be optimistic. We have a couple of targets and we are working hard in this way. The priority now is to try to help, especially in the final third.

"But the market is really difficult. It's about negotiations - we can control our side but not the other side."

Everton have made progress in their attempt to sign Theo Walcott and are hopeful of completing a £20m deal for the Arsenal winger this week.

Sam Allardyce confirmed his interest in the 28-year-old on Friday and Everton are in competition with Southampton, Walcott’s former club, for the former England international’s signature.

Negotiations between Everton and Walcott’s representatives have since advanced and Goodison Park now appears the likely destination for the player after 12 years at Arsenal. The winger has 18 months remaining on a contract worth £110,000 a week at the Emirates Stadium but personal terms and the £20m fee have not deterred the Merseyside club.

Allardyce is anxious to improve his attacking options this month and Everton, who have lost their past four matches after an encouraging start under their new manager, have already signed the striker Cenk Tosun from Besiktas for an initial £21m.

Theo Walcott is this morning travelling to Finch Farm to complete his move to Everton.

The 28-year-old will undergo a medical at the club's training ground and finalise terms on his £20million transfer from Arsenal.

Everton have fended off interest from Southampton to land Walcott who will become their second signing of the January window following the arrival of Cenk Tosun from Besiktas.

Sam Allardyce confirmed the Blues' interest in the England international last week and talks have progressed significantly since the weekend.
