Alexis Sanchez is set to start Arsenal's Carabao Cup tie at Chelsea - despite doubts over his Arsenal future.

Chile forward Sanchez trained on Tuesday and is in the 18 man squad for Stamford Bridge as Arsene Wenger goes near full strength.

Sanchez is a target for Manchester City who have made an enquiry and want to sign him in January but that has not put off Wenger from picking him.

City are set to make a £20m bid for Sanchez and test Arsenal who want around £30m.

However, Wenger does not want to entertain any bids before a game and is making that clear by putting Sanchez in the squad.

Sanchez is keen to move to City and has just six months left on his current deal but is ready to quit on a free this summer.

Wenger said: “What is the most important is to be professional, to perform no matter what the environment is.

“That’s why I believe that it does not have a big influence on your performance nor the performance of the team. It’s part of our job to deal with that.

“When solicitations happen, you respond to it. At the moment, it’s very quiet. I have nothing to add to what I said before on that (whether he will be sold).”

But the one big absentee is likely to be Mesut Ozil - who struggled with a knee problem last week - as he did not train and looks set to miss out.

BOCA: NO PAVON PROPOSAL

Boca Juniors president Daniel Angelici has poured cold water on reports linking striker Cristian Pavon with a move to Arsenal.

“For the moment, we haven’t received any proposal, formally or informally,” he said. “For now, they are all rumours, comments in the corridors.

“But I know very well what I spoke to Cristian about when we renewed his contract. I am not going to stunt his career, but we gave him a nice contract for him to be comfortable.

“We put a clause in the contract, in the event that a club might appear. It’s the player who has the last word. I see that he’s in a good place, very focused on approaching 2018 with Boca Juniors.”

On Sanchez. After both Manchester clubs made offer, all up to Arsenal and player. Right now, City don’t want to offer more than £20 and are convinced player wants to be with Pep, so will wait to the summer otherwise. Risky strategy if United offer huge figures to both club/player

Manchester United join the race for Alexi Sanchez: the latest

Everything seemed to be set for Alexi Sanchez to be reunited with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, but now cross town rivals Manchester United have joined the race.
In fact Mourinho contacted Wenger and offered Mkhitaryan as part of the deal, a player the French manager is intrigued by.
The former Borussia Dortmund player could be heading to London if they can get passed the issues concerning his high wages, at the moment there’s distance between the parties.
