Alexis Sanchez to accept Arsenal stance and see out contract before leaving on free transfer next summerSanchez is dropping hints to teammates and friends that he is resigned to staying for another year
Alexis Sanchez is ready to accept Arsenal’s hardline stance and see out the final year of his contract.Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that he has the backing of the club’s board to force Sanchez to stay despite risking losing him for nothing when his deal expires next summer.
But Sanchez is dropping hints to his team mates and friends that he is now resigned to staying and leaving as a free agent when he is likely to get an even more lucrative contract.Paris Saint Germain’s record breaking £200m move for Neymar appears to have ended the French club’s realistic chance of getting Sanchez.
Arsenal have made it clear they will not sell to Manchester City or any other Premier League rival and that has shut down Sanchez’s options.
Bayern Munich were keen but were put off by Sanchez’s demands as his advisers have been asking for £400,000-a-week.
But it may mean that Arsenal do business on another striker with Everton still keen on Olivier Giroud, although Wenger is desperate for him to stay.
Sanchez was at Wembley to see Arsenal win the Community Shield and earlier this week, Wenger sent out a warning over his future.
Wenger said: “Yes, the board back me to make the decisions on the technical front. Is that comings and goings? That is technical.”
Wenger is aware that Sanchez will be committed – no matter what the club decide about his future – with the World Cup in Russia at the end of the season.
Discussing his contract situation, he added: "I warn you that you are going to see that more and more.
"It will become common for one single reason: the inflation rate is so high on wages and the agent will speculate on high wages three or four years before the end of a contract.
“The clubs are not in a position where they can afford to do it. Will clubs be interested in running down contracts? Yes.
“With the amount of transfers, you buy just normal players for £50m. The clubs do not want to pay this for normal players. They will want to wait until the player is free.”
