Liverpool are set to hold further talks with Monaco today as they try to thrash out a club record deal for attacking midfielder Thomas Lemar.
The Reds’ bid of around £65million was turned down by the Ligue One champions who are reluctant to sell the France international.
However, Liverpool are ready to further test that resolve by increasing their offer to around £75million.Monaco are interested in striker Divock Origi and the Belgium international could be used as a makeweight in the deal.
Lemar can play out wide or through the middle. The 21-year-old scored 14 goals and provided 17 assists in 55 appearances as he helped Monaco win the title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.
Liverpool have been inundated with offers from clubs keen to take Origi on loan.
As well as Monaco, there’s been interest from Marseille, Bayer Leverkusen, Werder Bremen, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Tottenham.
Origi didn't even make the bench for Sunday's 4-0 win over Arsenal with summer signing Dominic Solanke having jumped ahead of him in the pecking order.
