Mido announces retirement

The former Egypt forward, who had spellswith thelikes of Tottenham and Ajax, confirmed on Twitter that he will call itaday 14 years after making his debut

Mido has announced his retirement fromprofessional football after 14 years.

The 30-year-old first came to Europe in2000 when he moved from boyhood club Zamalek to Gent before joining Ajax.

After two seasons in Amsterdam, he enjoyedspells in La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A and the Premier League.

However,he has found first-team footballharder to come by in recent months andtook to Twitter to confirm that he washanging up his boots.

"TodayI announce that I'm quittingfootball. I want to thank all those whosupported me during my football career,especially Egypt fans," hewrote.

Mido is perhaps best known for his twoyears at Tottenham, when hehelped the club challenge for a top-four finish in2005-06 whilst onloan from Roma.

Since leaving White Hart Lane, he hasrepresentedthe likes of Middlesbrough, Wigan Athletic, West Ham UnitedandBarnsley, but has been without a club since January.
