The Netherlands international has sealed a deal to return to his former club in the Bundesliga, bringing to an end his two seasons in the Premier League at White Hart Lane

Hamburg have completed the signing of Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart.

The Netherlands international has returned for a second spell with the Bundesliga club, who he previously played for between 2005 and 2008 before moving to Real Madrid.

Van der Vaart went on to join Tottenham in 2010 and has played in both of their Premier League matches this season despite repeated speculation linking him with the German club.

While in the United States on Spurs' pre-season tour, the 29-year-old insisted that he planned to stay at White Hart Lane but a move was revived as the transfer window drew to a close.

Earlier on Friday, Van der Vaart's representative, Roberto Geerlings, confirmed that his client was on his way to Hamburg to undergo a medical.

Geerlings did state that at that point, a fee had not been agreed between the two clubs, but added that it was "clear that the two parties intend to find a solution".

Van der Vaart made 63 top flight appearances for Spurs during his time in London, scoring 24 goals in the process.

German football expert Raphel Honigstein: "Hamburg have confirmed a deal for Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart. The Dutchman is on his way to Hamburg and could feature against Bremen on Saturday."

German newspaper Bild are also reporting this news. In German. Although they say he is currently "on a flight", which is clearly wrong as Sky have shown him just leaving the Spurs training ground.

This is warming up very nicely. Lots of clubs with fingers in pies. It is looking pretty certain now that Rafael van der Vaart is bound for Hamburg. BBC monitoring have flagged up that German newspaper Bild report the fee to be around 13m euros and that the Dutch player will go straight into the squad for HSV's match against Dortmund on Saturday.

In addition, the player's agent, Robert Geerlings, has confirmed the move: "I can confirm that Rafael is on his way to Hamburg now for a medical." I'd class this as being nailed on.
