Ljungberg announces retirement from footballFormer Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg has announced his retirement from football.
The 35-year-old has been without a club since terminating his contract with Japan's Shimizu S-Pulse by mutual consent in February.
Ljungberg joined the Gunners in 1998 and made an instant impression by scoring within seconds of his debut against Manchester United. It was a portent of things to come, as the Swede enjoyed a prolific nine-year spell at the Club, scoring 72 times in 328 appearances.
The attacking midfielder was a key member of the Arsenal side that won the Double in 2001/02, scoring in the FA Cup final defeat of Chelsea.
He also featured in the following season's FA Cup final victory against Southampton, and was part of the 'Invincibles' squad that went unbeaten to win the Premier League in 2003/04.
Ljungberg won his third FA Cup winners' medal in 2005, scoring his penalty in the shoot-out victory against Manchester United.
The Sweden international joined West Ham United in 2007, before enjoying spells in Major League Soccer, Scotland and Japan.
