Defender Nicky Shorey has rejoined Reading on a one-year deal after the Premier League new boys signed him on a free transfer.
Sky Sports reported last week the Royals were poised to bring Shorey back to the club where he spent seven seasons between 2001-08.
Reading confirmed the capture on Tuesday, with the left-back signing a one-year deal with the option for a further season.
The 31-year-old had been a free agent following his release by West Brom earlier in the summer.
Club chairman Sir John Madejski said: "I would like to welcome Nicky back to Reading Football Club, he was an outstanding player here once before and we are looking forward to him triumphing even more this time around.
"I know the manager was very keen to have Nicky back, that makes a huge difference and so good luck to him once again."
Shorey has been added to manager Brian McDermott's squad as they prepare for life in the Premier League, having won the Championship title last season.
The left-back notched up 286 appearances during his first stint with the Berkshire club before departing for Aston Villa in 2008.
