Tottenham interested in signing Ajax's Davinson Sanchez

Tottenham are interested in Ajax centre-back Davinson Sanchez, Sky Sports News understands.

The 21-year-old has won two caps for Colombia and scored six goals in his first season in Holland's Eredivisie, making a total of 43 appearances after signing last summer from Atletico Nacional.

Tottenham are yet to make any additions to their squad this summer and Sky Sports News understands centre-back is not one of Mauricio Pochettino's main priorities.

Pochettino is understood to be looking for a right-back, with Kyle Walker having departed for Manchester City and Kieran Trippier out through injury, as well as a forward and midfielder.

Sky Sports News reported earlier on Friday that Tottenham have opened talks with Celta Vigo to sign midfielder Pape Cheikh Diop.

However, Sanchez could become an option for Tottenham if one of their other centre-backs moves on, with the future of Austria international Kevin Wimmer remaining uncertain.

The club had previously been interested in Argentina U20 defender Juan Foyth, but that was cooled because of Estudiantes' asking price.

Spurs are close to Davinson Sanchez: the figures

Tottenham Spurs secure a move in defense: according to Manuele Baiocchini and Andrea Marinozzi from Sky Sport, they are close to Davinson Sanchez from Ajax.
The figures from the deal: 38.5 million euros. Inter also showed interest in the player.

Levy has held talks with Ajax over Sanchez, but the Dutch club are battling to try to keep the Colombian.

Ajax have offered Sanchez a new contract worth around £60,000-a-week and are threatening to hold out for £50m for him in the hope of keeping him for another year.

Tottenham hope to land Sanchez for around £35m and the will of the player may now prove crucial in where his future lies.

Other than Barkley and Sanchez, Spurs are chasing Celta Vigo youngster Pape Cheikh Diop, who is also wanted by Lyon, and are still on the look-out for a forward who could play across the front three.

Levy has come under fire for failing to make any signings so far this summer, but Tottenham remain confident they will land at least three new players before the transfer window shuts.

AJAX TELL SPURS TARGET TO STAY

Ajax have told Sky Sports News that they have informed Tottenham target Davinson Sanchez they do not want to sell him this summer.

Sky Sports News understands Spurs are interested in signing the 21-year-old centre-back but reports that a deal is close to being agreed are premature.

Sanchez was left out of the Dutch side's Eredivisie opener on Saturdaybecause manager Marcel Keizer and sporting director Marc Overmars felt he was not focused enough amid the uncertainty.

An Ajax spokesperson told Sky Sports News on Sunday: "Last year Sanchez signed a five-year contract and we don't want to let him go."

Overmars has also confirmed to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that Ajax have offered him an improved contract after just one successful year at the club.

Tottenham will hold talks with Ajax today over the transfer of Davinson Sanchez after proposing an initial £28million offer for the defender.
Chelsea and Real Madrid have also posted their interest in the Colombian centre-back and the Spanish side are understood to be lining up a counter bid but Sanchez wants to play for Tottenham after speaking to Mauricio Pochettino.
The Dutch side have made it clear to the 21-year-old that they do not wish to lose him and have offered him an improved contract but he wants the chance to play in the Premier League and the Champions League this season.
Ajax value Sanchez at closer to £40million and will look to maximise his price as they face up to the prospect of losing him.
The 21-year-old Colombia defender was left out of the Dutch club's squad to face Heracles on Saturday night after telling coaching staff he was not in the right frame of mind to play.

Ajax had offered Sanchez an improved contract, but the player has set his sights on a move to Spurs.
Tottenham have also offered £10million for Celta Vigo midfielder Pape Cheikh Diop.

SANCHEZ: I WANT TO JOIN SPURS

Sticking with Spurs and Davinson Sanchez has informed Ajax he wants to join Tottenham, reports the Independent.

The Colombia international is understood have rejected a move to Barcelona last year due to fears of a lack of game time.

But with Mauricio Pochettino believe to be interested in the 21-year-old, the defender has now revealed his desire to leave the Eredivisie club.

Spurs are pretty confident that the deal will be over the line soon. Pochettino convinced the player to join Tottenham.

There is still distance between Tottenham and Ajax for Davinson Sanchez. Spurs really want the player but they have offered 33 million plus 3 million in bonus, while Ajax is demanding 42 million for the defender from the class of '96. The player's desire is to join Spurs, so we can see an agreement reached in the next 48 hours. Tottenham is hoping to add him as a reinforcement.
