West Bromwich are braced for a bid of up to £25million from Manchester City for centre back Jonny Evans.City’s £18m bid was rejected, with Albion manager Tony Pulis is anxious to keep Evans and strengthen his defence by signing Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer for £15m.Evans missed the opening win over Bournemouth with a hamstring injury and is set to be ruled out of Saturday’s trip to Burnley‘Jonny felt his hamstring in training on Friday and we didn't want to take a chance,’ said Pulis. ‘He went in to see the doctor at the training ground and came to the ground and told me on Saturday it was sore. So we take his word for it.’
Against Bournemouth Pulis partnered usual right-back Craig Dawson with loan signing Ahmed Hegazi, with Gareth McAuley yet to return to full fitness.
The West Brom head coach has been pursuing a centre-back for some time with Dinamo Zagreb's Felip Benkovic also considered after a £21m bid for Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson was rejected.
Wimmer would add to the quality at West Brom’s disposal, even though he has cut a peripheral figure at Tottenham, who are seeking £20m including add-ons.
The 24-year-old has attracted interest from Southampton, Stoke and Crystal Palace and is keen to move on to play regular football, though negotiations are likely to enter next week before conclusion.
