Manchester City have insisted on a buy-back clause for Kelechi Iheanacho after Pep Guardiola confirmed the Nigerian striker will leave the club this summer.Leicester City are leading the race for the 20-year-old, with a £25m deal close to completion.
West Ham have also tracked him after he was told he was not part of Guardiola’s plans. But City have kept their options open by inserting a clause into his deal, which means they can bring him back to the Etihad in the future.Guardiola said: “Kelechi is a young player.
“As a manager it is an honour to work with him. It was not easy for him, I didn’t give a lot of chances.
“He decided to stay in Manchester (instead of going on tour) and mabybe next week he will finish.
“We have an option to take him back.
“We believe he deserves to play at that age. That’s why we decided what’s best.”
Guardiola plans to add to his strike force this summer, with Alexis Sanchez his top target.
City are also interested in Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe.
With Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus already at the club, Iheanacho was set to see his first team chances further limited.
Another striker on the way out is Wilfried Bony, who spent last season on loan at Stoke.
He has stayed behind in the UK too, with a minor injury.
