John Terry could make a return to the Chelsea first-team for this weekend’s Premier League clash with Stoke.
Terry has yet to play for interim manager Rafael Benitez after suffering a knee injury in a collision with Liverpool’s Luis Suarez in November.
Although the injury was not deemed to be too serious, his recovery proved complicated which delayed his return to action but he is now back in training.
Benitez has revealed he will feature in Chelsea’s development squad match against Fulham on Thursday night with a view to being available for the weekend’s trip to the Britannia Stadium.
“The good thing is he’s now training and if he can carry on. We’ll see how he feels on Thursday. Hopefully he can play more minutes in the short term, but we will see,” Benitez told reporters.
“But this is a positive thing at least. Before he was just able to warm up, and now I see him training and he can play, so obviously we are getting closer.”
When pressed on whether Terry could feature at the weekend, Benitez added: “It depends on his reaction. Obviously Thursday will be a different kind of game, but we will see how he feels. If he is okay and can train the day after, at least we can start considering him as an option.”
